Participating in Worship

The primary task of every Christian community is to gather people in, provide a transforming experience of God’s love, and equip them for service so that the world can be changed through the love of Jesus Christ.  Worship is the heart of who we are as people of faith and deepens our Spirit of community.  As we gather and sing, pray, and share the bread and the wine of communion, we are renewed and strengthened.  Every person who joins us at St. Andrew’s is welcome to fully participate, including receiving the bread and the wine.  Our worship service is printed in a service bulletin that guides you through the service.

Worship at St. Andrew’s is grounded in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and its supplemental worship resources.  The 9:00 am service opens with singing and prayers, then we hear lessons from scripture.  Responses to the readings include preaching, prayers, singing, and an offering.  Holy Eucharist follows, the feasting of blessed bread and wine at the table.  We are then sent forth in prayer and singing.  The 8:00 am service at Union Chapel follows the same pattern without music.

Participating in worship may include serving as a worship leader.  Preparing the altar, reading lessons, assisting as an usher, serving the wine, singing in choir—many people serve at St. Andrew’s to create a joyfully reverent atmosphere of love and welcome.

To more about worship at St. Andrew’s, take a look at this sample bulletin from the season of Easter.

Join our Choir

The choir at St. Andrew’s sings at the 9:00 am service throughout the academic year, as well as leading worship at special services.  Everyone who enjoys singing is welcome to become a member of the choir.  Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings.  Contact Music Director, Aaron Broderick, for more information or speak to a member of the choir on Sunday mornings.
