It’s time to start thinking about how we can help the people of the Remington neighborhood and the Church of the Guardian Angel celebrate Thanksgiving this year. As with so many things, our Thanksgiving dinner effort, done in combination with St. Mark’s Highland, and the Church of the Guardian Angel, will be different this year. We are planning to serve “take away” meals that folks will pick up at Guardian Angel and then take home to warm up and eat. We are still finalizing the menu, but we anticipate a smaller number of items to make it easier to prepare “to go” servings. Each of our three parishes will make a certain number of dishes that will be taken to Guardian Angel on Wednesday, November 25. Volunteers will then package the “to go” meals on Thanksgiving Day and meals will be distributed over a few hours. We will be looking for volunteers to prepare food in advance, and to help put the food in containers at Guardian Angel on Thanksgiving Day. More details on what food we need to prepare will be available in October.
In conjunction with the Thanksgiving Dinner, in years past our partner parish, St. Mark’s Highland has collected winter coats and jackets to distribute on Thanksgiving Day at Guardian Angel. This year, St. Mark’s was unable to have their Palm Sunday Service when they traditionally collect coats for Guardian Angel, so St. Andrew’s has volunteered to help collect coats and jackets. If you have a gently used coat or jacket, adult of children’s sizes, please bring it to the Parish Center and leave it in the Guardian Angel wagon. We would like to have all coats by November 18 so we can have them cleaned and ready to distribute on Thanksgiving Day.
